Talking About The Weather
And Packing Accordingly
Most adventurers choose to tackle their bucket list items during the times of year when the weather is more agreeable to outdoor activities. For most, this is the seasons of late spring, summer, and early autumn when it's warm.
During this time of year, it’s important to ensure that you have a pack with plenty of room for hydration and food stuffs as well as keep your body temperature under control.
Managing your body temperature is important, and the type of pack you choose can help. An external frame backpack places space between the pack and the wearer, allowing air to flow between the two, keeping the back cool.
An external frame comes with the advantage of being able to attach items to the outside of the pack, making it more convenient to store food and water containers in more easily accessible locations around the bag itself.
However, an internal frame backpack, however close, is usually relatively lighter than one with an external frame. The added weight of a metal frame can significantly impact energy output in a hot environment.
These usually come with pockets specialized for hydration bladders much like those of the CamelBak© brand personal hydration systems. You should also consider larger packs for colder weather in the winter. You will need to include more clothing items, additional footwear; lower temperature rated sleeping bags, and improved fire-starting equipment.
